Underlying many of the Government's ideals on public service reform is the idea of improvement, mainly in the services that are delivered directly to the public. Best Value became the first catalyst for thought change around five or six years ago and, although names may have changed in the meantime, this is still at the core of most future initiatives including Effeciency, Liveability, Comprehensive Performance Assessment (CPA) in England, Wales Programme for Improvement etc.

A Management Services professional can provide a range of skills on a project basis that are all based around Improvement, including Quality, Benchmarking (particularly in direct services where we have an abundance of experience), Performance Management and work organisation.

One of the important areas in terms of Improvement is in being able to measure it. We can provide a number of solutions linked to Performance Management which are all around the business planning process - setting objectives and targets, but another important area is customer feedback. Going back to the "Consult" phase of Best Value, we can help in conducting market research from service users and all the statistical analysis that goes into interpreting the results.
